On 1st July 2008, it’ll be exactly a year since England introduced new legislation to make virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces smoke free.
The move was designed to have a positive impact on our health, and it seems to have worked.
Latest figures show there were 1,384 fewer heart attacks across the country in the nine months after the legislation was introduced compared with the same period the year before.
However, at the moment around quarter of British adults still smoke - which works out at around 10 million people. Just under half of them have tried to quit since the smoking ban came in.
This video explores the benefits of the ban to the smoker and the pub goer, and also touches on the importance of ‘emotional help’ when it comes to quitting.
